After years of focusing on flip-style smartphones, Motorola is preparing to step into the large foldable phone category with a new device that opens like a book and targets productivity as well as entertainment.
Motorola has officially confirmed that the Razr Fold is coming soon. The device was first teased earlier this month at the CES technology event, but this marks the company’s clearest signal yet of its plans in the big-screen foldable space.
The Razr Fold features a large 8.1-inch inner display designed for multitasking, work, and video viewing. For everyday use, users may not need to open the device often. The outer screen measures 6.6 inches and functions like a regular smartphone display, making it easy to handle tasks such as messaging or checking updates on the move.
In terms of design, Motorola has partnered with Pantone to introduce 2 colour options: a deep “Blackened Blue” and a lighter “Lily White.” Both are aimed at giving the foldable a more refined and premium look.
Camera performance is another key highlight. Despite the thin design common to foldable phones, Motorola has equipped the Razr Fold with 3 rear cameras, each rated at 50 megapixels. The setup includes a main camera, a wide-angle lens, and a 3x optical zoom lens. The device also supports Dolby Vision video recording for more vibrant and realistic visuals. On the front, users get a 32-megapixel camera on the cover screen and a 20-megapixel camera on the inner display for video calls and selfies.
Artificial intelligence plays a central role in the new device. A feature called “Catch Me Up” provides summaries of missed notifications, while “Next Move” predicts user needs, such as suggesting calendar actions based on on-screen activity. The Razr Fold also supports the Moto Pen Ultra, allowing users to write notes or draw directly on the larger display.
While the design and key features are now public, Lenovo, Motorola’s parent company, has not yet revealed pricing or an exact launch date. A full product launch event is expected in the coming weeks.
