OnePlus India has issued a clarification after reports claimed that the brand was being dismantled internally. The statement comes at a time when there is growing speculation about the company future, following claims that OnePlus is facing major internal challenges within the wider ecosystem of its parent company, Oppo.
According to a recent tech report, OnePlus has seen a steady decline in global smartphone shipments. The fall is said to be sharper in key markets such as India and China, which together account for nearly 74 percent of the brand total shipments. This drop in market share has reportedly created internal pressure and raised concerns about possible large scale restructuring.
The same report suggests that OnePlus could be absorbed further into Oppo broader organisational and product structure. It also claims that the company has either scaled back or cancelled several planned launches as part of wider consolidation efforts.
Among the most notable changes is the reported cancellation of the OnePlus Open 2. The foldable phone was expected to succeed the OnePlus Open that debuted in 2023. The rumoured OnePlus 15s is also said to have met a similar fate.
Despite these claims, there is no official confirmation from OnePlus about any plan to shut down or wind down the brand. In a statement shared with a tech publication, the India team said that its business operations in the country continue to run as “normal”.
Reports also mention that Oppo had invested around 14 billion dollars, or roughly Rs. 1.2 lakh crore, into its ecosystem in 2022. This included opening up its retail stores and service network to support OnePlus. Even so, OnePlus is said to have struggled to regain momentum.
If OnePlus is eventually merged more deeply into Oppo, it would become the second brand under BBK Holdings to go through such a change. Recently, Oppo announced that Realme is becoming a sub brand, with Oppo remaining the main label while other brands operate under its umbrella with their own leadership.
For now, OnePlus has not confirmed any major changes. Whether the current structure will remain the same or evolve further remains to be seen.
