As cybercrime cases continue to rise across India’s urban centres, the police administration in Gautam Buddh Nagar has started building a dedicated cyber police station to strengthen its response to digital offences.
Officials said the move is aimed at upgrading infrastructure and addressing the growing scale and complexity of cybercrime in the district, which is part of the fast-expanding National Capital Region.
Police officials noted a steady increase in complaints related to online cheating, cyber fraud, data theft, and digital financial crimes. Many of these cases cross physical boundaries and require advanced technical investigation.
To address this challenge, the district police have initiated the construction of a new cyber police station building in Sector-20, Pocket-C, located in the Yamuna Authority area under the Khurja police zone. The project has been launched under the direction of the Police Commissioner.
Officials said the new facility will help overcome limitations faced at existing locations, where infrastructure is not sufficient to handle the rising number of digital crime cases.
According to official plans, the cyber police station will be built over an area of about 3,500 square meters at an estimated cost of ₹3.30 crore. The Public Works Department is executing the construction, following modern technical standards.
The building is being designed to handle cybercrime complaint registration, investigation, and specialised operations. Once completed, it is expected to bring cybercrime investigations under one roof, improving coordination and efficiency.
A key feature of the new cyber police station will be a high-tech cyber forensic unit and an advanced laboratory. These facilities will support the scientific collection, preservation, and analysis of digital evidence, which officials say is crucial for successful prosecution.
The lab is expected to reduce reliance on external forensic facilities and speed up investigations involving online fraud, identity theft, and digital financial crimes.
Alongside infrastructure development, the district police have focused on skill enhancement. Police personnel have already undergone cyber security training through the CyTrain portal. The sessions included inputs from experts linked to multinational companies, cyber institutions, banking, education, and law enforcement bodies.
Officials said the new cyber police station is part of a broader effort to modernise policing in a city where digital transactions and online services are rapidly increasing. Authorities believe the facility will help resolve cases faster, improve technical investigations, and strengthen action against cyber offenders.
