Capgemini on Tuesday said it plans to cut up to 2,400 jobs in France, which is about 6% of its workforce in the country, as the IT services firm faces weak demand across key sectors in its home market.
The French company said the economic slowdown has reduced demand in certain industries in France, with the automotive sector being among the most affected. Capgemini shared these details with a news agency.
Capgemini said the proposed workforce reduction will be carried out only through voluntary departures. The company also plans to offer internal retraining programmes for employees working in business units impacted by changes in client demand.
The company said the plan will move forward strictly on a voluntary basis and will be subject to discussions and negotiations with labour unions in France.
Capgemini added that the steps are part of its effort to adjust to changing market conditions while supporting employees through reskilling and internal mobility wherever possible.
The announcement highlights the challenges faced by technology services companies in Europe as slower economic growth and reduced spending in key sectors continue to impact demand.
