A new global survey shows that artificial intelligence is set to change the way most people work. Around four in five workers believe AI will affect their daily tasks, with Gen Z emerging as the most concerned group as companies increase their use of chatbots and automation tools.
The study, released by a global recruitment firm in its annual Workmonitor report, highlights a sharp rise in demand for AI related skills. Job listings asking for AI agent abilities have jumped by 1,587 percent. The findings suggest that AI and automation are increasingly taking over simple and repetitive roles.
The survey covered 27,000 workers and 1,225 employers, and analysed more than three million job postings across 35 markets. It also pointed to rising pressure on labour markets worldwide. Many companies are cutting jobs as consumer confidence weakens, influenced by global trade tensions and foreign policy changes that have unsettled economic stability.
Technology companies focused on AI are already replacing some roles with automation. At the same time, many firms are still waiting to see clear financial returns from their heavy investments in artificial intelligence, which is expected to shape the business world for years ahead.
“What we generally see amongst employees is that they are enthusiastic about AI … but they may also be sceptical in the sense that companies want what companies always want: they want to save costs and increase efficiency,” the company chief executive told a news agency.
The report also found clear generational differences. “Gen Z is the most concerned generation, while Baby Boomers show greater self assurance and are the least worried about AI’s impact and their ability to adapt.”
Nearly half of the workers surveyed believe AI will benefit companies more than employees. There is also a gap between how employers and workers view the future. While 95 percent of employers expect business growth this year, only 51 percent of employees share the same level of optimism.
