Navi Mumbai Airport crosses 1 lakh passengers within weeks of launch

Early travel numbers are signalling a strong start for Navi Mumbai’s new aviation hub. The Adani Group-backed Navi Mumbai International Airport has crossed the 1 lakh passenger milestone in less than 3 weeks of starting commercial operations.

The airport said it handled 1,09,917 passengers within 19 days of launch. This included 55,934 arriving and 53,983 departing passengers as of 01/12. The busiest day so far was 01/10, when the airport recorded 7,345 passengers arriving and departing in a single day, according to Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd.

Airport officials said the milestone reflects steady growth in travel demand and strong passenger response from the Mumbai metropolitan region.

Commercial passenger services at the airport began on 12/25. The airport has an initial capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. Between 12/25 and 01/12, the facility recorded 734 air traffic movements, covering both arrivals and departures. This figure included 32 general aviation flights.

Operational data also shows significant baggage handling activity. During the same period, the airport processed 40,260 arriving bags and 38,774 departing bags. Cargo operations also began alongside passenger services, with the airport handling 22.21 tonnes of cargo, highlighting its integrated passenger and cargo setup from day one.

In terms of route demand, Delhi, Goa, and Bengaluru emerged as the top-performing sectors during the initial phase of operations.

Navi Mumbai Airport authorities said the facility is scaling up services gradually, supported by modern infrastructure, streamlined passenger processes, and a focus on operational efficiency. The aim is to expand capacity in a calibrated manner while maintaining smooth operations as traffic continues to build.

With passenger numbers rising steadily in its first few weeks, Navi Mumbai International Airport is positioning itself as a key addition to the region’s aviation network, easing pressure on existing infrastructure and improving connectivity for travellers.
