Sodexo is accelerating its India strategy by riding the country’s manufacturing upswing and the rapid growth of global capability centres (GCCs). The company is aiming for a major scale-up as India becomes its fastest-growing market worldwide, driven by strong demand in food services and integrated workplace solutions.
“India has been the fastest-growing region for Sodexo globally for the last three years, and food services alone grew at over 30 per cent year-on-year during this period,” said Sambit Sahu, Managing Director, Sodexo India. Facilities management has also posted double-digit growth, highlighting a rising trend among large enterprises to outsource workplace services.
Manufacturing is a key growth engine, especially across electronics, renewables, automobiles and pharmaceuticals. This momentum is supported by government incentives and increased private investment. Sodexo is involved from the earliest stages of large greenfield projects, starting with temporary services during construction and expanding as production ramps up.
“In manufacturing-led projects, we partner with clients from the groundbreaking stage — setting up temporary kitchens and facilities — and continue through to large-scale permanent operations,” Sahu said. Such projects often include central kitchens serving 70,000–80,000 meals daily, along with integrated facilities and asset management services.
The company expects manufacturing, corporate food services and universities to be its fastest-growing segments in India. “Manufacturing, corporate food services and universities will be our strongest growth engines, each growing at over 20 per cent annually, driven by India’s investment cycle and GCC expansion,” Sahu added.
Southern India has emerged as a major focus area, with Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai seeing strong GCC and technology-led workplace activity. To meet this demand, Sodexo is investing in central kitchens, digital platforms and hospitality-driven workplace solutions.
Its expanded offerings include concierge, transport, wellness, sustainability management and digitally enabled workplace tools. Sodexo is also rolling out a new enterprise resource planning system in India to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
“India is not just a growth market for Sodexo; it is also a strategic hub for talent, digital, data and shared services supporting other geographies,” Sahu said. The company operates a global capability centre and a digital and data hub in India serving Asia-Pacific and other markets.
Backed by organic growth, technology investments and selective mergers and acquisitions, Sodexo has set a clear goal. “We intend to double our revenue in India over the next three years, and we are on track to achieve that,” Sahu said.
