Alibaba revamps Quark browser with system level AI integration

Alibaba has introduced a redesigned version of its Quark browser, positioning it as a strong rival to Google Chrome, OpenAI Atlas, and Perplexity Comet. The latest version includes Alibaba’s Qwen large language model at the system level rather than as a simple plug-in. This makes Quark an AI first desktop experience. Users can summarise webpages, rewrite text, create content, or ask contextual questions without switching tabs.

Qwen Smart Suite: A toolkit for digital tasks

Along with the new browser update, Alibaba has launched the Qwen Smart Suite. This suite offers tools that can read content aloud, select and analyse text, take screenshots, and support conversational queries. These tools aim to help users manage daily digital tasks such as research, writing, and handling documents.

Quark’s user base and future plans

Quark was launched in 2016 and has grown to more than one hundred million desktop users. With the deeper integration of Qwen into the browser, Alibaba aims to turn Quark into a productivity hub that brings browsing, search, and AI assistance together. This update follows the release of the Qwen App, which received more than ten million downloads in its first week of beta testing.

Alibaba’s strategy in the AI browser market

The browser market is shifting towards AI native experiences. Alibaba is strengthening Quark to compete with this new wave of AI powered browsing. Google is adding Gemini to Chrome, OpenAI is building conversational browsing with Atlas, and Perplexity is advancing its Comet research assistant. By integrating Qwen across the system, Alibaba aims to stand out with a consistent and context aware AI experience.
