The Reserve Bank of India has announced the appointment of Usha Janakiraman as its new Executive Director, with the role taking effect from December one, 2025. Before this elevation, she served as Chief General Manager in Charge in the Department of Regulation at the central office in Mumbai.
According to the central bank, Janakiraman has over thirty years of experience across key functional areas. Her work spans regulation, external investment and operations, banking supervision, public debt management, currency management and several other responsibilities within the institution. Janakiraman is also a Chartered Accountant.
In her new position as Executive Director, she will oversee the Department of Supervision, focusing on risk, analytics and vulnerability assessment. Her appointment follows the central bank’s recent leadership additions, which included the induction of two other executive directors in October 2025.
The announcement comes just days before the central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting scheduled for December three. Janakiraman experience in regulatory and supervisory functions is expected to support the bank’s ongoing priorities in financial stability and oversight.
