Online stockbroking platform Zerodha has increased the limit on its instant fund withdrawal facility from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh per day, allowing customers to transfer larger amounts from their trading accounts to their bank accounts without waiting for the regular withdrawal cycle.
The revised facility also offers greater flexibility in terms of availability, with customers now able to request instant withdrawals between 9 am and 6 pm, including weekends and stock market holidays. The announcement was made by Zerodha co-founder and CEO Nithin Kamath on November 3. He said the brokerage had processed nearly ₹1 lakh crore through instant payouts since introducing the facility in 2024.
The move is aimed at making access to unused trading funds quicker and more convenient for investors. The latest revision doubles the earlier withdrawal ceiling and expands the availability of the service. Under the updated facility, customers can withdraw between ₹100 and ₹5 lakh in a single instant withdrawal request per day. Zerodha has retained the service as a free facility, with no additional charges for eligible transactions.
The facility is now available throughout the week, including non-trading days, giving investors more flexibility in managing their money.
Here are the key changes:
- Maximum withdrawal: Increased from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh per day.
- Minimum withdrawal: ₹100.
- Withdrawal timings: 9 am to 6 pm.
- Availability: Weekdays, weekends and market holidays.
- Transaction charges: No additional fee.
- Daily requests: One instant withdrawal request.
Who can use Zerodha’s instant withdrawal facility?
Although the higher limit is available to eligible customers, the amount that can be withdrawn instantly depends on the funds available in the trading account and the applicable settlement conditions.
Customers cannot instantly withdraw money deposited into their Zerodha accounts on the same day.
The availability of funds can also be affected by open positions, pending orders and other trading-related obligations. Proceeds from share sales are subject to applicable settlement rules.
Customers whose Zerodha accounts are linked to Orbis cannot use this facility.
Investors should check their eligible withdrawal balance on Zerodha Console before initiating a transaction.
How to withdraw up to ₹5 lakh instantly from Zerodha
Customers can initiate an instant payout through Zerodha Console by following these steps:
- Log in to the Zerodha account.
- Open the Funds section.
- Select the Instant withdrawal option.
- Enter the amount to be transferred.
- Review the details and confirm the request.
Once the request is successfully processed, the eligible amount is transferred to the customer’s registered bank account.
The minimum withdrawal amount is ₹100, while the maximum permitted under the instant facility is ₹5 lakh per day.
Can Zerodha customers withdraw more than ₹5 lakh?
Yes. The revised ₹5 lakh ceiling applies only to the instant withdrawal facility and does not represent the overall withdrawal limit on Zerodha.
Customers who want to transfer larger amounts can use the regular withdrawal option available through Zerodha Console.
However, regular withdrawals are processed according to the brokerage’s standard withdrawal schedule and do not offer the same instant transfer facility.
This distinction is important for investors who maintain substantial idle balances in their trading accounts and occasionally need to move larger sums to their bank accounts.
What if an instant withdrawal request fails?
Customers should note that Zerodha allows only one instant withdrawal request per day. If an instant payout request fails, another instant withdrawal request cannot be initiated on the same day. Customers will have to use the regular withdrawal facility instead.
The amount available for withdrawal may also differ from the overall balance displayed in the trading account because of unsettled transactions, margin requirements and other restrictions.
Why has Zerodha increased the withdrawal limit?
The decision reflects the growing importance of convenient fund management in online trading. Investors often keep money in their brokerage accounts to meet margin requirements or take advantage of market opportunities. However, when these funds are not required for trading, quick access to the money becomes important.
By raising the instant withdrawal limit and extending the service to weekends and market holidays, Zerodha is attempting to make its platform more convenient for customers. The nearly ₹1 lakh crore processed through instant payouts since 2024 also highlights the growing adoption of faster withdrawal services among its users.
What does the change mean for investors?
The increase to ₹5 lakh gives Zerodha customers greater flexibility in accessing their unused trading funds without incurring additional withdrawal charges.
However, investors should remember that the instant withdrawal facility is subject to eligibility requirements and settlement restrictions. The entire account balance may not necessarily be available for immediate transfer. For customers who frequently move funds between their bank and trading accounts, the revised facility offers a more convenient way to manage their money.
