In a move aimed at helping users reduce distractions, YouTube has rolled out an updated time management feature that allows users to limit or completely disable Shorts viewing.
The feature lets users set a daily time cap on Shorts, including an option to set it to 0 minutes. This effectively removes Shorts content from the app experience.
To use this feature, users need to open the YouTube app on their Android or iOS device and tap on their profile icon, usually located at the bottom-right corner. From there, they can go to Settings and navigate to the Time management section.
Within this section, users will find the “Shorts feed limit” option. After enabling it, they can choose how much time they want to spend on Shorts each day. Earlier, the minimum limit was 15 minutes, but the latest update now allows users to set it to 0 minutes.
Selecting 0 minutes is the key step. Once set, the Shorts feed stops showing videos immediately. Instead, users will see a message saying they have “reached your Shorts feed limit.”
After enabling this setting, the Shorts tab will no longer display videos. In many cases, Shorts content may also disappear from the Home feed. When users try to access Shorts, they will only see a notification instead of videos. This works as a built-in way to block Shorts without using any third-party apps.
The feature was initially introduced as part of parental controls to help families manage screen time for children. It is now being extended to all users, including adult accounts.
This update offers a simple way for users to cut down on endless scrolling and create a more focused app experience.
