In an effort to enhance user experience, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a built-in noise cancellation feature for voice and video calls, aimed at delivering clearer conversations in noisy environments.
According to a report by a technology platform, the feature is currently available to a limited number of Android beta users and is expected to roll out gradually. It is designed to reduce background noise such as traffic, wind, and crowd chatter while keeping the speaker’s voice clear.
The feature works in real time, automatically identifying and filtering unwanted ambient sounds without affecting speech quality. This allows conversations to feel more natural and easier to understand, especially for users taking calls in busy surroundings.
Some beta users have reported seeing a new option within the calling interface to manage noise cancellation. In most cases, the feature is enabled by default, activating automatically when a voice or video call begins.
The system operates individually, meaning it improves how others hear your voice when enabled. However, your own listening experience depends on whether the person on the other end has also activated the feature.
Users also have the option to turn off noise cancellation if they are not satisfied with the audio output.
The report added that the feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.14.1 on the Google Play Store. As of now, access is limited to a small group of testers, with a broader rollout expected in the coming weeks as testing expands.
