Vodafone Idea rebrands as Vi with Shah Rukh Khan as brand ambassador

Vodafone Idea is refreshing its brand identity as it looks to strengthen its position in the telecom market. The company has brought Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan on board as its brand ambassador and changed its logo from “V!” to “Vi”.

The new identity is being launched with the campaign “Vi badal raha hai… tayaar rahiye” (Vi is changing… Be ready).

Khan, popularly known as SRK, will remain the brand ambassador for the campaign, although the company has not specified its duration. His appointment comes as the Aditya Birla Group backed telecom operator works to attract more customers and secure funding for its ₹45,000 crore capex plan over the next 3 years.

Vi plans new launches and customer experiences

CEO Abhijit Kishore said, “This is not simply a logo refresh, it is the first expression of the evolution we are bringing to the Vodafone Idea Brand. It reflects our ambition for Vi and commitment to shaping what telecom can be – an experience that makes life more rewarding, and full of possibilities for our customers.”

He added, “Over the coming weeks, this evolution will come alive with strategic launches, new campaigns and a range of experiences that will shape how we engage with our customers. The new identity captures optimism—an optimism for everything that is possible today, more importantly for what we can bring to both; our retail customers and enterprises in the future as a tech co.”

Vi was close to securing funding from SBI, with its promoters backing guarantees for the loans, according to a recent report. The company raised ₹6,400 crore through bank funded and non funded facilities in the quarter ended June. This was the first tranche of its planned ₹35,000 crore fundraise to support its capex plan focused on 4G expansion and 5G rollouts.

Customer additions rise

Vi added 240,114 customers in July, its highest monthly gain in 2 years. It marked the 4th consecutive quarter of net customer additions in FY27 and the 6th straight month of gains since February.

Kishore has identified customer additions, double digit revenue growth and tripling cash Ebitda over the next 3 years as the 3 key pillars of the Vi 2.0 strategy.

ABG chairman and Vi non executive chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said the company had moved beyond its “most challenging years” with greater financial clarity, continued promoter backing and renewed investment capacity after the long pending AGR issue was resolved.

“FY26 was a year of resolution. FY27 begins a period of execution,” Birla said.

He added, “The priorities ahead are clear: Execute the network investment programme, strengthen market competitiveness and translate a stronger balance sheet into sustained growth in customers and earnings.”
