Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), India’s third-largest telecom provider, has significantly ramped up its network expansion during Q4 FY25 by strengthening its 900 MHz band infrastructure across all 16 circles where it holds the spectrum. This strategic move is aimed at resolving one of its long-standing challenges—poor indoor coverage.
Driven by a notable increase in capital expenditure over the past year, Vi added 6,900 unique broadband towers in the fourth quarter alone, marking the highest-ever quarterly tower addition since the company’s formation through merger. In a strong push to improve overall customer experience, Akshaya Moondra, CEO of Vodafone Idea, stated, “We continue to strengthen our network on sub-GHz 900 band across all the 16 circles where we have 900 MHz spectrum and during the quarter, we added approximately 18,400 sites, enhancing overall coverage and significantly improving indoor connectivity.”
But Vodafone Idea’s network upgrade doesn’t stop there. The telco is also enhancing capacity by rolling out the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz spectrum bands across additional sites. Moondra added, “Further, we added approximately 14,500 sites in the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands primarily to boost network capacity, enabling faster data speeds on the Vi GIGAnet network. Our overall broadband site count stood at around 494,600 as of March 31, 2025, compared to about 430,700 as of March 31, 2024.”
This expansion translates into more than just numbers. Over the full financial year FY25, Vi deployed 14,100 broadband towers, nearly equaling the total tower additions from the previous five years combined (FY20–FY24), which stood at 14,900. As a result, Vodafone Idea has expanded its 4G population coverage by an impressive 73 million people, while also significantly increasing network data capacity to deliver a faster and more seamless digital experience for users.
Vodafone Idea’s continued investment in both coverage and capacity is seen as a strong step toward addressing past service gaps and future-proofing its network for growing data demands.
