Self-driving technology has reached Uber’s European ride-hailing network, with the company launching autonomous rides in Zagreb in partnership with Verne and Pony.ai.
The Croatian capital is the 1st European city where users can book a self-driving vehicle through Uber’s app. The service is currently available in key areas of Zagreb, including the city center, with coverage and availability expected to increase over time.
During the initial phase, a licensed operator will remain inside the vehicle to monitor operations as the companies work toward fully autonomous rides.
Chinese robotaxi company Pony.ai is providing the autonomous driving technology. Croatian startup Verne is responsible for the fleet and service operations, while Uber is integrating the service into its ride-hailing platform.
The launch builds on a partnership announced in March 2026, with the 3 companies planning to expand autonomous ride services to additional European cities.
Riders can access the service by requesting an UberX or Comfort ride through the Uber app. When a self-driving vehicle is available, the app will display the vehicle details and provide instructions to the rider.
