Tiruppur cybercrime crackdown leads to 22 arrests in 1 day

A district-wide crackdown in Tiruppur has led to the arrest of 22 people accused of involvement in cybercrime cases in a single day under ‘Operation Screen Off – 3.2’.

According to the press statement issued by the Tiruppur district police, “Operation Screen Off – 3.2 is a special enforcement drive to identify and arrest interstate and international cyber criminals involved in online frauds, cyber crimes, fake bank accounts, and SIM card-based financial frauds. The operation focuses on exposing and dismantling criminal networks involved in scams such as part-time job frauds, cryptocurrency frauds, and fake investment application scams that cheat members of the public.”

A district-wide search operation was conducted on Thursday as part of the drive. During the operation, 22 cybercrime suspects were identified and arrested.

Of those arrested, 2 were involved in cases registered at Palladam and Perumanallur police stations. Another 3 suspects wanted in a Coimbatore City case were arrested and handed over to the concerned authorities.

Police also arrested and handed over 1 suspect wanted in a case registered in Avadi.

“One accused wanted by the Krishnagiri district police was arrested and handed over to them. Other 15 accused wanted in cyber crime cases registered in other districts and states were also arrested, and further legal action has been initiated,” police said.

The operation focused on suspected interstate and international cybercrime networks linked to online fraud, fake bank accounts, SIM-based financial fraud, part-time job scams, cryptocurrency fraud and fake investment applications.
