Tesla India Motors and Energy reported revenue of ₹247.31 crore and a net profit of ₹5.16 crore in FY26, marking its first financial year of Model Y sales in India as the electric vehicle maker expanded its local operations.

The company’s revenue from operations increased nearly 12 times from ₹20.83 crore in FY25, while net profit rose from ₹55.49 lakh. Regulatory filings show that FY25 revenue came entirely from services, making FY26 the first year in which vehicle sales contributed to the company’s reported turnover.

Tesla began selling its Model Y in India after opening its first showroom in Mumbai in July 2025. Vehicle sales generated ₹214.69 crore in FY26, accounting for nearly 87% of total revenue. Services contributed another ₹32.40 crore.

According to Vahan data, Tesla recorded 346 vehicle registrations between September 2025 and March 2026. Registrations increased to 650 between April and September FY27, exceeding the previous period’s total within 6 months. Average monthly registrations rose from approximately 49 to 108, indicating an increase in sales volumes, although the overall base remains small.

The company’s filings also show that Tesla infused ₹86 crore into its Indian entity during FY26. Tesla International BV contributed ₹85.91 crore, while Tesla Motors Netherlands B.V. contributed the remaining ₹8.6 lakh.

Cash expenditure on property, plant and equipment and capital work-in-progress reached ₹62.54 crore in FY26, compared with ₹1.16 crore in FY25. Cash and cash equivalents stood at ₹87.82 crore at the end of March, up from ₹10.28 crore a year earlier.

Operating costs also increased as the business expanded. Employee benefit expenses more than tripled to ₹43.67 crore from ₹13.46 crore, including ₹11.99 crore in share-based compensation. Rent expenses climbed to ₹30.32 crore from ₹2.64 crore, while advertising and promotional expenditure stood at ₹2.16 crore. Total expenses amounted to ₹240 crore.

Tesla currently offers the Model Y and Model Y L in India. The 5-seat Model Y features rear-wheel drive, a claimed range of up to 500 km and a starting ex-showroom price of ₹50.89 lakh.

The Model Y L comes with all-wheel drive and a 3-row, 6-seat configuration. It offers a claimed range of up to 681 km and starts at ₹61.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

The company operates experience centres in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. It also has Tesla-approved body shops in Pune and Ahmedabad.
