Telangana’s Cyber Crime Unit Arrests Four for Targeting Retail Shops and Online Centres

Karimnagar: The Vemulawada Town Police have dismantled a cyber crime gang that was targeting online centers and retail shops nationwide. Four gang members were apprehended during an operation on Monday, while the alleged leader remains elusive. District Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan announced that those arrested include Chirag Ramesh Pethad (25), a mobile promoter; Vilesh Patel (30), a driver; Nilesh Jai Singh (34), a water supplier; and Jitendra Somabhai (43), a private transport worker, all from Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The main suspect, Dasari Murali (45), is thought to be hiding in Gujarat.

Police reports indicate that the gang deceived online center owners by impersonating doctors, businessmen, and other professionals to convince victims to transfer significant amounts of money under the pretense of legitimate transactions. In one case, Murali posed as a doctor from a civil hospital to facilitate a money transfer, while in another, the gang targeted a fast-food establishment, persuading the owner to send Rs 65,000 as part of an order before later requesting more funds.

The cyber crime scam, which resulted in losses exceeding Rs 30 lakh, was uncovered after several complaints were lodged with the Vemulawada Police. A specialized team, including Inspector Veer Prasad and members of the Cyber crime Unit, utilized technical surveillance to locate the suspects in Bhiwandi. A manhunt is currently in progress for Murali, the primary suspect in the case. SP Mahajan praised the police team for their prompt response in resolving the matter.
