TCS Restructures AI.Cloud Unit Into Separate AI and Cloud Divisions to Accelerate GenAI Growth

TCS, the largest IT services provider in the country by market capitalization, has restructured its AI.Cloud division into two separate business units as the company seeks to achieve greater growth in the artificial intelligence cloud sector, according to a senior company official.

TCS launched its AI.Cloud unit in August 2023 to unlock enhanced business value by leveraging the capabilities of cloud and generative AI (GenAI).

Siva Ganesan, who is now at the helm of the newly created AI.Cloud unit, stated, “AI is becoming increasingly prevalent and is now part of every discussion,” further noting that this trend is anticipated to “expand and intensify as we move forward.”

Krishna Mohan, who previously served as the deputy head of the AI.Cloud unit, will now oversee the cloud division. In addition, Ashok Krish has been appointed as the global head of AI, while Satish Byravan will take on the role of global head of Data.

In what is viewed as a strategic initiative to leverage the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI), TCS has set up a specialized unit for AI and another for cloud services, as stated by senior executives.

Ganesan told Media, “For us, the volume and the vibrancy of activity we are seeing in the AI and data space has grown many fold in the last 12 months.” He did not disclose specific figures, as TCS does not report separate revenue for AI. He explained the unit will act as a “central unit, a repository of all AI things.”

Executives emphasized that both AI and cloud technologies present significant growth opportunities and largely unexplored markets, which supports the establishment of separate business units.

TCS is in the process of recruiting AI specialists from the industry while simultaneously improving its internal skills by revising training programs for current staff.

One representative explained that the AI division also includes data due to their strong interrelation. In cases where clients’ data systems are not yet prepared for AI, TCS can provide integrated solutions that merge AI and data services.
