Vikram-1 launch campaign marks major leap for India’s private space ambitions

In a significant step for India’s private space ecosystem, Skyroot Aerospace has moved closer to the launch of its Vikram-1 rocket, bringing the country nearer to its first privately developed orbital mission.

The company recently flagged off the payload fairing from Hyderabad to Satish Dhawan Space Centre. This marks the start of final integration and launch campaign activities at India’s primary spaceport.

Vikram-1 is a multi-stage launch vehicle designed to place satellites of up to 350 kg into low Earth orbit. It uses a combination of solid and liquid propulsion systems and is part of Skyroot’s effort to enable faster and more cost-effective satellite launches.

The milestone event was attended by A. Revanth Reddy, who highlighted its importance in positioning the state as a global aerospace hub. The development reflects the increasing role of private companies in India’s expanding space sector.

The next phase will involve assembling, testing, and preparing the rocket for its maiden orbital mission. If successful, Vikram-1 will mark a historic achievement, making Skyroot Aerospace the first private Indian company to launch an orbital rocket.

The mission underscores the rapid progress of India’s private space industry and opens new opportunities for commercial satellite launches in the global market.
