A fresh leak has hinted at a major branding change for Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone lineup. The company is reportedly preparing to introduce its first “Ultra” branded foldable device alongside the next Galaxy Z Fold series, expected to launch later this year.
According to a tipster on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, Samsung may rename its next-generation foldable phones under a new strategy. The flagship model is now expected to launch as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, while the company’s first wide-folding handset could simply arrive as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Earlier reports had suggested the devices would be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.
If accurate, this would mark the first time Samsung uses the “Ultra” branding for its foldable smartphone range. The company first introduced the Ultra label in its Galaxy S lineup with the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020. Since then, the branding has been used across several premium Samsung products, including the Galaxy Book laptop series.
The leak also included an image said to show the upcoming wide-folding Galaxy Z Fold 8. The device appears to feature a cover display with squared-off corners, slim bezels, and a centred hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. The design suggests Samsung could be refining the display experience further for its next foldable generation.
Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 8 during the same launch event. Reports suggest the company may host its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22 in London, where the new foldable lineup could officially debut. However, Samsung has not yet confirmed the event or the naming details.
More information about the upcoming foldable devices is expected to surface in the coming weeks as launch preparations continue.
