Selective hardware upgrades expected in Samsung’s Galaxy S27 lineup

Amid early leaks around next year’s flagship lineup, new details suggest that storage upgrades in Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 series may not be uniform across all models.

According to recent reports, the Galaxy S27 lineup is expected to introduce UFS 5.0 storage, a next-generation standard designed for high-performance mobile and computing applications. However, this upgrade may be limited to select variants rather than being available across the entire series.

The leak indicates that the Galaxy S27 Ultra is likely to feature UFS 5.0 storage, while the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ may continue with UFS 4.0. This marks a selective upgrade approach, possibly influenced by rising production costs and manufacturing challenges. The base storage configurations are expected to remain unchanged.

For context, the current Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra models are equipped with UFS 4.0 storage. Meanwhile, competing Android flagship devices such as OnePlus 15, Motorola Signature, and Xiaomi 17 are already offering UFS 4.1.

The UFS 5.0 standard, introduced in October last year, delivers significant performance improvements. It offers bandwidth speeds of up to 10.8Gbps, compared to 5.8Gbps in UFS 4.0 and 4.1. The new standard is designed to support advanced AI-driven applications while maintaining low power consumption.

In addition to storage upgrades, early rumours suggest that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could be powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. The device is also expected to feature a quad rear camera setup led by a 200-megapixel sensor, along with support for LOFIC technology to enhance dynamic range.

Further, the flagship model may include S Pen support with a digitiser, positioning it as a premium offering within the series.

While these details are based on early leaks, they highlight a possible shift in Samsung’s strategy to differentiate its top-end model with more advanced hardware features.
