Xiaomi’s Redmi series is preparing to add a new 5G smartphone to its Indian lineup, with the Redmi 17 5G set to arrive in the country with a larger battery than the version sold in global markets.

A dedicated microsite has confirmed that the Redmi 17 5G will launch in India on September 3. The smartphone will be sold through Amazon and will be available in Absolutely Black, Endless Blue and Eternal Orange. Its Indian design remains unchanged from the global model.

The Redmi 17 5G will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset. The India variant will pack a 7,900mAh battery, compared with the 7,500mAh battery offered on the global version. It will support 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging.

For photography, the smartphone will feature a dual rear camera setup led by a 50-megapixel primary camera, along with an unspecified secondary sensor and LED flash. An 8-megapixel front camera will handle selfies and video calls through a hole-punch cutout.

The device will feature a 6.9-inch flat display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Additional details about the smartphone are expected to be revealed on September 2.

The Redmi 17 5G was launched in select global markets on August 10, starting at MYR 769 (about Rs. 18,000) for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant.

Apart from the battery capacity, the Indian and global versions are expected to share the same specifications and features.
