Xiaomi’s Redmi has expanded its budget smartphone lineup in India with the launch of the Redmi 17 5G. The handset will go on sale later this month and comes with a larger battery than the global version, along with a Snapdragon 4 series chipset and a dual rear camera setup.
Redmi 17 5G price and availability
The Redmi 17 5G starts at Rs. 39,999 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model is priced at Rs. 41,999. However, the net effective prices are Rs. 23,999 and Rs. 26,999, respectively.
The smartphone will be available in India from September 10 through Amazon and the Xiaomi online store. It comes in 3 colour options: Absolute Black, Endless Blue, and Eternal Orange. The global version was launched early last month.
Redmi 17 5G specifications and features
The dual-SIM Redmi 17 5G runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, based on Android 16. It features a 6.9-inch HD+ display with a 720 x 1,600 pixels resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 825 nits peak brightness, and up to a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The display supports 16.7 million colours and 83% NTSC coverage. It also gets Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection and TÜV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Circadian Friendly, and Flicker Free features.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, built on a 4nm process, with a peak clock speed of up to 2.4GHz and an Adreno GPU. It offers up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB UFS 2.2 storage, expandable by up to 2TB through a microSD card. The handset also carries an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance.
For cameras, the Redmi 17 5G has a dual rear setup led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, paired with an unspecified secondary camera. An 8-megapixel front camera with an f/2.05 aperture handles selfies and video calls. Video recording is supported up to 1080p at 30fps.
The smartphone packs a 7,900mAh battery with 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, USB Type-C, a 3.5mm audio jack, and GPS. It also features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock. The phone measures 170.12 x 78.42 x 8.8mm and weighs about 232g.
