Prysmian signs €5.5 billion long-term deal with Molex to expand data centre business

Amid rising demand for AI infrastructure and data centre connectivity, Prysmian has signed a long-term agreement worth up to €5.5 billion ($6.4 billion) with Molex, an electronics company owned by Koch. The deal marks a major step in Prysmian’s strategy to expand its presence in the rapidly growing data centre market.

The agreement will run for up to 10 years and includes an upfront payment of €550 million. Under the deal, Prysmian will supply optical cables used inside data centres.

According to the company, the agreement is part of a broader set of partnerships and commercial initiatives with hyperscalers and data centre infrastructure providers. These initiatives are expected to generate more than €10 billion in additional cumulative revenue by 2035, compared with 2025.

Prysmian also expects these projects to contribute up to €1.1 billion in annual revenue from 2031.

To meet the growing demand driven by AI infrastructure and data centre expansion, the company plans to more than double its fibre production capacity in the U.S. Prysmian will invest €1.25 billion through 2031 to expand optical fibre and cable manufacturing across the U.S. and Europe.

The expansion is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs globally, including around 600 positions in the U.S.

Commenting on the announcement, Chief Executive Massimo Battaini described the investment and partnership as a “transformative moment” for Prysmian’s Digital Solutions business.
