As mobile banking becomes increasingly linked to everyday transactions, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has urged people in Goa to remain cautious about cyber fraud. He warned people against answering unknown calls or dialling unfamiliar numbers containing symbols such as star (*) and hashtag (#).
Sawant said cyber fraud targeting mobile banking is increasing and warned that scammers can gain access to bank details and withdraw money within minutes.
He also cautioned people about fake links sent under the pretext of tracking courier or parcel deliveries. “Hackers send links of a courier or a parcel which they urge people to click on to track their parcel. Once they click on the link, the hacker gets access to the entire bank information of the person, as now everything is linked to a person’s mobile number,” said Sawant.
The Chief Minister advised people not to answer suspicious calls or follow instructions from unknown callers, including requests to dial unfamiliar numbers. He also warned about fake “digital arrest” scams being used to target people in India and abroad.
Sawant said authorities are using different techniques to track cybercrime cases and are working to improve public awareness. He added that even minor cybercrime complaints are being registered and action is being taken.
