Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute to support more reliable banking services and improve protection against emerging cyber threats.

India is strengthening its banking infrastructure and cybersecurity preparedness with the inauguration of 2 new facilities in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on October 25.

The Prime Minister said the facilities would help improve banking efficiency and reliability through advanced computing systems and modern technology. He described the initiative as beneficial for both Odisha and the country. He also said the coming decade would focus on strengthening banking services through robust technological infrastructure.

Modi highlighted the growing risks posed by cybercriminals and cyberterrorists to India’s financial system. He stressed the need for modern security systems and trained professionals who can respond to evolving cyber threats. He also called for replacing outdated training tools with modern infrastructure and skilled human resources, identifying the new institute as an important step in this direction.

The Data Centre is expected to strengthen the infrastructure supporting the banking system and improve the reliability of financial services. The Prime Minister linked the initiative to India’s wider banking transformation, particularly the expansion of digital banking and round-the-clock access to financial services. He noted that digital banking has significantly changed how people access financial services across the country.

Modi also highlighted the expansion of formal banking services among economically disadvantaged communities. He said nearly 60 crore Jan Dhan accounts had helped extend banking access to millions of citizens.

He further pointed to financial assistance provided through the Mudra Yojana, PM SVANidhi and PM Vishwakarma initiatives. These programmes support entrepreneurs, street vendors and traditional artisans.

The Prime Minister said India’s governance approach increasingly focuses on development, wider access to services and efficient delivery. He identified digital connectivity and financial inclusion as important drivers of this transformation.

He also highlighted Odisha’s growing opportunities in electronics, semiconductors and data centres, noting their potential to contribute to future economic development.

The inauguration reinforces the focus on technological infrastructure and specialised cybersecurity training within India’s banking ecosystem. For the RBI, the facilities represent an investment in computing capabilities, banking reliability and preparedness against emerging cyber threats.
