OpenAI has launched the Codex Micro, a dedicated programmable controller developed in collaboration with keyboard maker Work Louder. Designed for developers using the company’s AI coding assistant Codex, the new device offers quick access to AI-powered coding workflows through dedicated controls and built-in Codex integration.
The Codex Micro is priced at $230 (approximately Rs. 22,000) and is now available for purchase through the websites of OpenAI and Work Louder.
The controller supports both Bluetooth and USB Type-C connectivity and is compatible with Mac and Windows systems. It features RGB lighting, with each Agent Key displaying live RGB status updates from Codex. OpenAI states that “Codex Micro is the only AI controller that is directly integrated into Codex”.
The device features a CNC-machined polycarbonate (PC) and aluminium chassis with a sandblasted anodised aluminium bottom. It includes 13 mechanical switches, a touch sensor, a rotary encoder, and a planar joystick.
The programmable keypad is designed to act as a physical control hub for developers. It comes with 32 custom icon keycaps and 11 solid-colour keycaps, while offering 6 programmable layers that allow users to organise different workflows into dedicated layouts.
Its joystick enables users to quickly switch between Codex tasks such as reviewing pull requests, debugging errors, and refactoring code. The controller also includes dedicated Command keys to accept or reject AI-generated changes, activate push-to-talk, start new chats, and trigger custom actions instantly. The rotary dial allows users to adjust the AI agent’s reasoning level.
In addition to native Codex integration, the Codex Micro also supports Work Louder Input, allowing users to remap commands, customise layouts, and personalise controls without requiring additional software downloads.
