As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into everyday life, OpenAI is strengthening its leadership in communications and public engagement with the appointment of Jill Hazelbaker as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.
In her new role, Jill will lead OpenAI’s global communications and corporate positioning. She will work closely with leaders across the company to deepen public understanding of AI and strengthen trust in its mission.
Jill brings nearly 2 decades of experience advising technology companies and political leaders through periods of significant growth and complex challenges. Most recently, she served as President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Uber, where she helped guide the company’s transformation from an ambitious startup into one of the world’s largest global technology platforms.
Her appointment reflects OpenAI’s focus on building the leadership capabilities required to engage with the people and institutions shaping the future of AI.
Welcoming her to the company, Greg Brockman, Co-Founder and President of OpenAI, said, “As AI becomes part of more people’s lives, how we communicate, engage, and earn public trust has never been more important. Jill brings exceptional judgment, seasoned leadership, and a deep understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities that come with building technology at global scale. She’s exactly the kind of leader we need for this next chapter, and I’m thrilled to welcome her to OpenAI.”
Jill Hazelbaker said, “AI represents the most profound technological shift of our lifetime. The stakes are enormous, the possibilities are extraordinary, and the work of building public trust has never been more consequential. I could not be more excited to work alongside Sam, Greg, and the outstanding team they’ve assembled to help OpenAI meet the moment.”
At Uber, Jill spent a decade overseeing global communications, marketing, public policy, safety and people teams. She played a central role in shaping the company’s reputation, managing complex regulatory and reputational challenges, and developing capabilities to support its international growth.
Before Uber, she led communications and public policy at Snap. She also held senior leadership positions at Google, overseeing global corporate communications, communications across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and government relations in Europe.
Jill began her career in US politics, serving in leadership roles across local, state and national campaigns. She was National Communications Director and Chief Spokesperson for Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and Press Secretary to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
