In a major boost for China’s artificial intelligence sector, Beijing-based startup Moonshot AI has secured $2 billion in fresh funding, pushing its valuation beyond $20 billion.
The funding round was led by Meituan’s venture arm, highlighting strong global investor interest in Chinese AI firms competing with major players like OpenAI.
Founded by former Tsinghua University professor Yang Zhilin, who has previously worked at Meta and Google, Moonshot AI has seen rapid growth in a short period. Its valuation has surged from $4.3 billion at the end of last year to over $20 billion now.
The company’s growth is supported by its Kimi chatbot and enterprise AI tools, which helped its annual recurring revenue cross $200 million in April.
At the same time, other domestic competitors such as MiniMax and Zhipu AI are also expanding quickly, showing rising momentum in China’s AI ecosystem.
