MediaTek is preparing to introduce its first Pro-grade chipset built on a 2nm process, with the Dimensity 9600 Pro scheduled to launch on September 15. The company has already revealed several features focused on performance, power efficiency, gaming and imaging.
MediaTek will unveil the chipset at a conference in China at 2:30 PM on September 15. The company says the Dimensity 9600 Pro is its first Pro-grade processor manufactured using the 2nm node.
The chipset is expected to deliver improved performance and power efficiency through deep co-development using the Design Technology Co-optimisation (DTCO) process. According to MediaTek, this approach improves performance and scaling while also increasing manufacturing yields.
Gaming will also receive several upgrades. The Dimensity 9600 Pro will use deeply integrated AI GPU graphics rendering technology, along with updates to the Star Speed Engine and improved ray tracing capabilities.
For cameras, the chipset is expected to support 4K video recording at 120fps and enhanced slow-motion video recording.
A recent report suggests that the Dimensity 9600 Pro could feature an ARMv8 octa-core architecture with 3 core clusters. This may include 2 Canyon cores clocked at 4.55GHz, 3 Gelas-B cores at 4.35GHz and 3 Gelas cores at 3.10GHz. The chipset could support up to 16GB of RAM and use a Mali-G2-Ultra-NX MC12 GPU.
The same report says the chipset achieved 4,137 points in single-core and 12,751 points in multi-core tests on Geekbench 6.7.1. The scores were recorded on the global version of the unannounced Vivo X500 Pro Max.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro is expected to compete with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, which is reportedly planned in standard and Pro or Extreme versions. Another recent report suggests that the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max could also use the new MediaTek chipset.
