Kerala Police Warns of WhatsApp Scam Targeting Vehicle Owners

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police have issued a caution regarding a scam in which con artists send fraudulent messages claiming that a fine has been levied on a vehicle in an attempt to extort money.

According to the Kerala Police the latest scheme involves WhatsApp messages that assert a fine is owed for your vehicle. These messages seem to originate from the Motor Vehicles Department and include your vehicle number along with other personal information. They also contain a deceptive app or link labeled “Parivahan.” Clicking on this link could lead to financial loss.

Kerala Police urge the public not to engage with such messages. If you become a victim of online financial fraud, report it to 1930 within an hour (the GOLDEN HOUR) to enhance the chances of recovering your funds. Complaints can also be filed on the website www.cybercrime.gov.in.
