Kerala Police Alerts Public On Online Gaming Scam Threat

Kerala Police has released a new advisory warning citizens about a recent online scam that targets users by pretending to be an online gaming opportunity. Scammers are utilizing WhatsApp groups to entice victims into joining online games, subsequently providing a link to a gaming website.

Upon clicking the link, users encounter a “gift box” that claims to offer items like gold rings and diamond necklaces at reduced prices. After making a payment for these items, victims are persuaded to sell them at a higher price on the same site.

The fraudsters also present fake profit projections to entice users into buying high-value products, often costing lakhs. However, when victims try to sell these items for profit, they discover there are no buyers. It is only when they realize they cannot get their money back that they understand they have been deceived.

When victims request refunds, the scammers ask for a hefty “security deposit” to release their funds. This tactic often traps victims deeper into the scam, leaving them with no chance of recovering their money.

To protect themselves from such scams, individuals should remain alert and cautious when participating in online gaming or shopping. The police recommend being wary of offers that appear too good to be true.
