In a major boost to India’s growing spacetech sector, Karnataka has launched the country’s 1st State-led Centre of Excellence for Space Technology, called CoE SpaceTech Foundation, in Bengaluru. The initiative aims to strengthen commercial space innovation and support the expanding spacetech ecosystem.

The centre has been established by the Karnataka government through the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society in partnership with SIA-India.

The CoE will focus on advanced research in space technologies along with industry-focused training, talent development, startup incubation, and cross-sector applications of spacetech solutions.

Speaking during the launch, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said the objective is to create an ecosystem where innovation can lead to real-world applications, economic growth, and high-quality employment opportunities.

He also stressed the importance of shared technical infrastructure and said the government will conduct consultations with industry stakeholders to ensure the centre’s capabilities match industry requirements.

The CoE has signed strategic MoUs with Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Helogen Corporation, Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises, Dassault Systèmes, and Idea Baaz.

According to the state government, the initiative is expected to bridge the gap between research and market-ready solutions, helping Indian companies grow faster in the global space economy.
