As digital threats continue to grow, police personnel need stronger technical skills to investigate cybercrime and other offences effectively, Judge Gangadhar Channabasappa Hadapad said at a Police Martyrs’ Day programme on Wednesday.
Speaking at the District Armed Reserve Police Force parade ground, he highlighted the different challenges faced by cops and soldiers. “Soldiers know who their adversaries are within the designated borders they guard. However, personnel must confront criminals within society itself. With cybercrime increasing in recent times, it is essential for them to acquire expertise in technology,” he said.
Hadapad also urged people to remember personnel who sacrificed their lives to maintain peace and order and to support their families. He recalled that 10 CRPF personnel were killed on October 21, 1959, while resisting an attack by Chinese soldiers along the India-China border. Police Martyrs’ Day is observed annually on October 21 in their memory.
He added that while people celebrate festivals with their families, personnel often remain on duty to protect the public, putting their safety and family time at risk.
Cops service and health concerns
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer S Akash praised the district police for carrying out their duties efficiently, including managing Ganeshotsav celebrations and processions.
“Police service often goes unrecognised. Even when personnel perform their duties diligently, they cannot always expect public appreciation or gratitude. They should, therefore, serve with the satisfaction of having fulfilled their responsibilities before God and their own conscience, rather than seek recognition from others,” he said.
Akash also urged personnel and other government employees to prioritise their health. He expressed concern over deaths linked to heart attacks, work-related stress and other health problems, and advised personnel to take proper care of themselves.
154 police personnel killed on duty
Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey said 154 personnel across India, including 5 from Karnataka, died in the line of duty between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shivakumar, Police Training Institute Principal P Papanna, Home Guards District Commandant C K Sandhya, Deputy Superintendent of Police Gopalakrishna Satyanarayana Rao and SP’s office Assistant Administrative Officer Murthy also attended the programme.
