J&K Police urges citizens to stay alert against SIM swap cyber fraud

As cyber fraud cases continue to rise, J&K Police has issued a public advisory asking citizens to stay alert against SIM swap fraud and other unauthorised SIM-related activities that could lead to financial losses.

The advisory states that if a mobile network suddenly stops working without any clear reason, users should immediately contact their telecom service provider to verify the status of their SIM card and mobile connection. Prompt action can help prevent fraudsters from gaining access to banking and digital accounts.

J&K Police has also urged people never to share OTPs, banking details or personal information with unknown individuals through phone calls, messages or online platforms. Citizens have been advised to verify every request seeking sensitive information before responding.

The advisory further recommends regularly checking banking alerts, transaction messages and account activity to quickly identify any unauthorised transactions. People have also been asked to immediately report any suspicious requests related to SIM replacement or SIM swapping, as these methods are commonly used by cyber criminals to take control of mobile numbers and linked financial accounts.

According to the police, awareness and timely action play a crucial role in preventing cyber crimes and financial fraud. Citizens are encouraged to remain cautious while using digital services and adopt safe online practices to protect their personal and financial information.

The police have also appealed to victims of cyber fraud to report incidents without delay by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline on 1930 or by filing a complaint through the Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in.

Reiterating its commitment to public safety, J&K Police has urged citizens to stay vigilant and strengthen their digital security to safeguard themselves from evolving cyber threats.
