Jamtara cyber fraud racket busted as police arrest 5 accused in raid

A cyber fraud network operating from Jharkhand’s Jamtara district has been busted after police arrested 5 accused, including 2 teenagers, during a raid in the Karmatand police station area.

According to Superintendent of Police Sambhu Kumar Singh, the operation was carried out following a tip-off about online fraud activities being run from the region. Police also detained a SIM card supplier from the Kalajharia locality, who had reportedly arrived to deliver SIM cards to the accused.

During the raid, officials seized 5 mobile phones, 6 SIM cards, 3 ATM cards, 1 PAN card, 1 Aadhaar card, and a motorcycle from the accused.

Police have registered 2 separate cases under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the IT Act, and the Telecommunication Act.

Investigators said the accused targeted unsuspecting customers by claiming that their debit or credit cards had been blocked. They allegedly contacted victims through mobile numbers collected by the group and convinced them to share banking details by sending screenshots and promising to reactivate the cards.

After obtaining sensitive financial information, the accused reportedly carried out online fraud and stole money from victims. Police said their operations mainly targeted people in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rizwan Ansari (19), Basir Ansari (30), Saklain Ansari (19), Safauddin Ansari (20), and Mujahid Ansari (21).

Police further revealed that Rizwan Ansari had a previous criminal record and had served jail time in 2023.

Officials confirmed that further investigation into the cyber fraud network is currently underway.
