Roman Gofman set to lead Mossad as Israel approves top intelligence appointment

In a key leadership move, Israel has approved the appointment of Roman Gofman as the new head of its intelligence agency, Mossad, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office on Sunday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had announced his intention to nominate Gofman in December 2025. The decision was formally cleared by a committee for senior appointments.

Gofman will assume office in June 2026, succeeding current Mossad director David Barnea.

At 49, Gofman is a seasoned military general. He rushed to Israel’s southern border to help rescue communities during the Hamas-led infiltration on October 7, 2023. He currently serves as the prime minister’s military secretary.
