Authorities have warned public about fraudulent emails and text messages that falsely claim to be official communications from the Cyber Unit of Lahav 433.
Israel Police issued the warning Wednesday after receiving reports from citizens who received emails and text messages stating: “We have been informed that you viewed materials depicting minors involved in explicit sexual activity.”
The messages ask recipients to respond by email and threaten legal action if they fail to do so. Police said the communications are not official and are part of a scam or phishing attempt.
“We clarify that this is a fake message and that it was not sent by the Israel Police,” police said.
Authorities have urged the public not to respond to such messages, click on any links included in them or download files to a computer.
Police also advised recipients to block the email address or phone number from which the fraudulent message was sent.
