As Apple prepares for the next phase of its AI strategy, new reports suggest the upcoming iPhone 18 series could receive a significant memory upgrade to support more advanced Siri capabilities and on-device AI features. According to analyst expectations, Apple may equip the entire iPhone 18 lineup with 12GB of RAM, including the standard model.

The development follows Apple’s recent announcements at WWDC 2026, where the company unveiled iOS 27, revamped Siri functionality, and new AI-powered experiences across its ecosystem. Reports indicate that some of Apple’s most advanced AI foundation models require at least 12GB of RAM, making higher memory capacity increasingly important for future devices.

If the reports prove accurate, the iPhone 18 could deliver broader access to Apple’s premium AI features and help expand adoption of the upgraded Siri experience. The move may also strengthen demand for the next-generation iPhone lineup.

The latest claims come amid rising DRAM and NAND memory costs, which have increased smartphone manufacturing expenses globally. Interestingly, previous reports suggested Apple was considering certain hardware compromises for the standard iPhone 18, including possible adjustments to chipset specifications, manufacturing processes, and memory configurations as part of cost-control efforts.

Apple is also expected to change its launch strategy. Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and the company’s rumoured foldable device could debut in September, while the standard 18 may arrive later in 2027.

Currently, Apple’s most advanced AI features are expected to run only on devices with 12GB of RAM or higher. This means models such as the iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air are expected to support exclusive AI capabilities, while the standard 17 with 8GB RAM will continue to support the broader set of Siri AI features alongside eligible devices starting from the iPhone 15 Pro.

Meanwhile, Apple has already released the first developer beta of iOS 27, allowing developers to test the new operating system and its AI-powered tools ahead of the public rollout.
