Apple is reportedly preparing a new iPhone software update for next week, with changes expected to improve messaging, video calls, smart home controls and media discovery. The iOS 27.2 update could introduce new features across 6 apps, although Apple has not officially confirmed the release date or details.

Messages and Apple TV updates

The Messages app may regain the Suggested Actions feature, first introduced in the iOS 27 beta before being removed. It could display context-based options below messages, allowing users to create calendar events or reminders, add details to notes and perform other tasks.

The Apple TV app on iPhone and iPad may also gain profile selection, a feature already available on tvOS. It would let people sharing an account maintain separate viewing histories and recommendations. Users could disable the profile selection screen if they do not want it to appear every time.

FaceTime and smart home improvements

FaceTime’s Dual Capture feature, introduced with iOS 27, may receive an upgrade. Compatible iPhones could use their front and rear cameras simultaneously during group calls. Users would be able to activate the feature through the camera-flip button, with simultaneous camera feeds reportedly enabled by default on iPhone 17 and newer models.

The update could also add 2 automation options for compatible smart locks. Lock After Closing would let users set how long the lock should wait after a door closes before locking automatically. Door Left Open could send an alert when a door remains open for a specified period.

Changes to Podcasts and Games

Apple Podcasts may reorganise the Up Next queue into 2 sections: New Episodes and Continue Playing. The first would display the latest episodes from followed podcasts, while the second would collect episodes users have started but not finished.

The Games app could show recently downloaded games that users have not played yet. Its Home tab previously displayed games with some play activity. Apple may also revise how achievement progress and leaderboard scores appear on the Home tab.

The reported changes aim to improve everyday tasks across Apple’s apps. However, the company has yet to confirm which features will arrive with iOS 27.2 or when the update will roll out.
