As global concerns grow around next-generation artificial intelligence risks, India is pushing for early access to Anthropic’s upcoming Claude Mythos model to strengthen its cybersecurity preparedness.
Anthropic is currently in discussions with the US and other allied democracies, including India, to secure critical infrastructure before the public release of Mythos. The model is described as one of the most powerful AI systems developed so far and is expected to expose deep vulnerabilities in global digital systems.
Due to these risks, Anthropic has delayed a broader rollout and is providing early access to a limited group of companies to identify and fix system weaknesses. Notably, no Indian companies are part of this initial group.
Nasscom has reached out to Anthropic, requesting inclusion in Project Glasswing and access to Mythos. The aim is to help Indian firms strengthen cyber resilience, especially as their software supports businesses worldwide.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is also reportedly in talks with Anthropic executives in the US to enable early access for Indian companies.
Current discussions are focused on three key areas — timing, scope, and the structure of international access. The objective is to detect and fix vulnerabilities in global software systems and reduce cross-border risks before the model is widely released.
In a statement, Nasscom highlighted the global role of India’s IT sector. “As AI systems evolve to autonomously identify and chain vulnerabilities across platforms, the potential for cascading, cross-border risk becomes significantly higher,” it said. “Given this reality, it is imperative that Indian technology firms are included in the global industry consortium by Anthropic.”
The issue has also drawn attention at the policy level. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently held a meeting with bank leaders, the Reserve Bank of India, and MeitY to assess cybersecurity risks linked to Mythos. The finance ministry said the threat was “unprecedented and requires a very high degree of vigilance, preparedness and better coordination across financial institutions and banks”.
Earlier, Anthropic launched Project Glasswing, granting Mythos access to 40 US-based organisations, including major technology and financial firms, to help detect and fix zero-day vulnerabilities.
