India has become NetApp’s fastest-growing market in Asia, with BFSI, manufacturing, IT services and the public sector driving much of the company’s growth. Central and state government departments are also among its key customers.

CEO George Kurian said India’s business has consistently grown faster than the company’s wider operations. “India has been the fastest-growing market in Asia, and we are always looking to grow faster,” Kurian said.

NetApp’s Bengaluru global capability centre is also expanding. With about 4,000 engineers, it is the company’s largest centre, with most global R&D work being carried out from India. The centre supports innovation across multiple technology areas.

Kurian said NetApp is the number 1 player in India’s all-flash storage market. The company is also giving its Indian teams greater scope to expand through investments from NetApp and its partners.

The company serves large banks and financial institutions, central and state government departments, manufacturing companies and IT services firms.

“we have presence in many of the large BFSIs in India, and also most of the central government departments and many of the state government departments are NetApp’s customers…we have been historically very strong in manufacturing around the world. We are strong in the IT services segment. So it’s a broad book of business.”

NetApp remains focused mainly on large enterprises and the public sector, particularly organisations handling large volumes of unstructured data.

For companies still in the early stages of AI adoption, Kurian recommended strengthening data infrastructure, building an AI platform on-premises or in the cloud, and selecting business cases that can deliver measurable benefits. NetApp can help connect enterprise data with AI platforms.

At its Insight event, NetApp launched Novus, a storage architecture for large-scale AI factories and GPU infrastructure. It supports a zettabyte-scale file system and more than 100 terabytes per second of scale-out performance, designed to keep GPUs supplied with data.

The company also announced capabilities for agentic AI, hybrid multi-cloud operations and SAP cloud infrastructure. NetApp and Oracle introduced a managed storage service for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, with general availability planned within 12 months.

Other announcements included Console Autonomous Operations, Fleet Management, AI ChatOps, expanded Keystone Sovereign capabilities and a planned NetApp-Nutanix solution for virtualised workloads.
