Google Photos is rolling out new touch-up features designed to help users make quick and subtle edits to selfies and portraits directly within the app.
Announced by Google, the updated image editor introduces tools that allow users to enhance facial details without heavy alterations. The focus is on making small, natural-looking improvements rather than dramatic changes.
The new tools include options to smooth skin texture, remove blemishes, brighten eyes, and whiten teeth. Users can also adjust features like under-eye areas, irises, eyebrows, and lips. Each tool comes with an intensity slider, giving users control over how subtle or strong the effect appears.
To access these features, users simply need to select a face within a photo and choose from options such as heal, smooth, under eyes, irises, teeth, eyebrows, or lips.
Google has emphasized that these enhancements are meant to be “subtle,” reflecting ongoing concerns around the impact of heavy retouching, especially in areas like social media and digital self-image. The update comes at a time when discussions around the effects of online platforms on younger audiences continue to grow.
The rollout is happening gradually for global users. To access the new tools, users will need a device running Android 9.0 or higher with at least 4GB of RAM.
With this update, Google Photos continues to expand its editing capabilities, offering more control and convenience for users looking to refine their images on the go.
