Expanding the role of generative AI in Android, Google has unveiled a new “Create My Widget” feature that will allow users to build personalized widgets using natural language prompts.
The feature is set to launch this summer on the latest Samsung Galaxy smartphones and Google Pixel devices.
With the new tool, users can simply describe the kind of widget they want. For example, someone could request “suggest 3 high-protein meal prep recipes every week” and receive a custom dashboard widget that can be resized and added directly to the Android home screen.
The feature also supports more personalized use cases. A cyclist, for instance, could create a weather widget that only displays wind speed and rainfall updates.
Powered by Gemini, the feature can gather information from the web and connect with Google services like Gmail and Calendar to generate personalized dashboards. If a user is planning a family reunion in Berlin, the widget can collect hotel and flight information, display restaurant reservations, and even create a countdown for the trip.
The launch reflects Google’s broader strategy to integrate generative AI more deeply into Android and make customization tools easier for everyday users.
Speaking during a media briefing, Ben Greenwood said, “This is like you asking your personal assistant a question, and having them just bring you the answer on repeat.”
Google announced the feature alongside the introduction of Gemini Intelligence, which will also add AI-powered capabilities such as advanced autofill and a voice dictation feature for Gboard.
