Google has rolled out wider integration of its latest Gemini models across Search and the Translate app, bringing smarter translations and real time audio capabilities to users.
The company has embedded Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash Text to Speech into its products to deliver more natural and context aware interactions. In Google Translate, the updated system can better interpret idioms, slang, and local expressions. Rather than offering direct word by word translations, Search now explains phrases like “stealing my thunder” by understanding their intended meaning.
Google has also upgraded language learning features in the Translate app. The language practice tool now tracks daily learning streaks, helping users monitor consistency in their language learning journey. This beta feature is being expanded to nearly 20 additional countries, including India, Germany, Sweden, and Taiwan.
Users can practise multiple language pairs, including Bengali, Mandarin Chinese Simplified, Dutch, German, Hindi, Italian, Romanian, and Swedish to English, as well as English to German and Portuguese.
A key addition is the Live Translate feature powered by Gemini 2.5 Flash Native Audio. This allows streaming speech to speech translation directly through headphones. By tapping “Live Translate” in the Translate app, users can hear real time translations during conversations, lectures, or while watching content in another language. The feature works with any headphones.
Google said the experience preserves tone, emphasis, and speech flow, making conversations easier to follow. Starting today, the Live Translate beta is rolling out on Android in the U.S., Mexico, and India. It supports over 70 languages, including Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, and Bengali.
