Google launches AI agents that monitor the web and deliver real-time updates

A major step in the evolution of online search is underway as Google introduces AI-powered Information Agents designed to track the internet on behalf of users and provide updates automatically. The new feature is part of Google’s AI Mode and aims to make search more proactive, personalised, and efficient.

Unlike conventional search, where users must repeatedly check for updates, these AI agents continuously monitor the web in the background. They can track information from websites, news sources, social media platforms, shopping listings, financial updates, and sports events. When relevant information becomes available, users receive a concise summary of the latest developments.

The feature can be activated through prompts such as “keep me updated on” or “alert me when” within AI Mode. Once enabled, the AI agent automatically follows the requested topic and delivers notifications whenever matching updates appear online.

Google highlighted several practical applications for the technology. Users searching for rental properties can receive alerts when new listings meet their requirements. Similarly, consumers can track product launches, brand announcements, and updates related to athletes or public figures without having to perform repeated searches.

According to the company, the agents use advanced reasoning capabilities to identify relevant information and determine the right time to notify users. This differs from traditional alert systems that rely on fixed schedules and manual monitoring.

The rollout reflects Google’s broader vision of transforming Search into a more intelligent assistant capable of performing tasks independently. Rather than acting solely as a response tool, Search is gradually evolving into a system that actively works for users by continuously monitoring information across the internet.

Currently, Information Agents are available to subscribers of Google AI Ultra, the company’s premium AI offering. The feature supports all AI Mode languages and markets and is expected to contribute significantly to the growing adoption of agentic AI technologies worldwide.
