Google CEO Sundar Pichai congratulated the AI team at Meta for the release of Llama 4

Following the introduction of Facebook parent firm Meta’s Llama 4, a new set of sophisticated AI models, Google CEO Sundar Pichai hailed the AI team at the internet business. With their multimodal capabilities, improved reasoning, and efficiency, these models—which include Llama 4 Scout and Maverick—establish Meta as a formidable rival in the AI market.

“Never a dull day in the AI world! Congrats to the Llama 4 team, Onwards!” Pichai said in a post on X.

Meta launches Llama 4 AI models to compete with Google, OpenAI

With the release of Llama 4, Meta’s most recent suite of AI models, the company’s AI assistant is now available on all of its platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Scout and Maverick are the two types that are instantly accessible in this release; Behemoth, the third, is still undergoing training.

Llama 4 Scout has a 10-million-token context window for analyzing large documents and is made to run on a single Nvidia H100 GPU. According to Meta, Scout performs better on a number of benchmarks than Google’s Gemma 3 and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, as well as the open-source Mistral 3.1. There are 17 billion active parameters out of 109 billion total.

More processing power is needed for Llama 4 Maverick, such as an Nvidia H100 DGX machine. According to Meta, Maverick is in competition with Google’s Gemini 2.0 Flash and OpenAI’s GPT-4o in the areas of image processing, coding, reasoning, and multilingualism. It has 400 billion parameters in total, of which 17 billion are active and distributed among 128 “experts.”

By only activating pertinent portions of the model for certain tasks, Scout and Maverick both use a “mixture of experts” (MoE) architecture, which increases efficiency.

There will be 288 billion active parameters and around two trillion total parameters in the next Llama 4 Behemoth. According to Meta’s internal testing, Behemoth scores better on a number of STEM assessments than models like GPT-4.5 and Claude 3.7 Sonnet.

Musk was previously praised by Pichai on the introduction of the Grok-3 AI model. Pichai said “Congrats on the progress! Look forward to trying it out ” in response to Elon Musk’s X post after Grok 3 was released. I’m excited to give it a try.

According to Musk, Grok 3 outperforms a number of top AI models in domains including science, coding, and mathematics, including Gemini 2 Pro, DeepSeek V3, and GPT-4o.
