Google expands Gemini Spark to macOS with advanced AI workflow automation

Google has expanded Gemini Spark to the Gemini app on macOS in beta, bringing its personal AI agent to Apple desktops. First introduced at Google I/O 2026 in May, the feature is designed to automate multi-step tasks across files, apps and services, making everyday workflows faster and more efficient.

Gemini Spark can directly interact with files and applications on a Mac after receiving user permission. For example, it can organise PDF files stored in the Downloads folder into separate folders, create a budget spreadsheet using locally saved invoices, and schedule recurring updates through Google Workspace.

Google also announced that remote task execution will soon be available on macOS. This feature will allow users to assign tasks to Gemini Spark from their smartphone while away from their computer. The AI agent will be able to locate files on the Mac, extract required information, and automatically send it through email.

The company is also expanding Gemini Spark’s connected app ecosystem. Users can now turn notes into tasks using Google Tasks and Keep. Additional integrations with Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable and Zillow Rentals are rolling out to the web and mobile versions over the next week and will reach the macOS app in the coming weeks.

Another key addition is support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, allowing users to connect more applications for personalised workflows. Gemini Spark also introduces proactive monitoring, enabling the AI agent to track news websites, blogs, financial markets, sports, weather, shopping, social media and email. It can automatically notify users when predefined conditions are met.

Gemini Spark for macOS is currently available in beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and above in the US.
