Several Android users are reporting a new issue with the Gmail app that causes screen flickering on tablets and foldable smartphones, making emails difficult to read. The issue is reportedly affecting users across multiple Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab A11+ and Galaxy Z Fold series.
The problem surfaced after users shared complaints on social media platforms and online support forums. According to reports, the Gmail app begins flickering when opened, causing text and email content to become unreadable.
Users said common troubleshooting methods such as force-stopping the app, clearing cache, restarting devices and updating the Gmail app to the latest version have not resolved the issue.
A user responding on the support forum claimed the issue has already been escalated to Google and that the company is aware of the bug. The issue is reportedly linked to Android System WebView, especially on Samsung tablets and foldable devices.
Although Google has not officially acknowledged the issue publicly, reports suggest the company may already be working on a fix. However, there is currently no confirmation on when an update could be released.
In the meantime, some temporary workarounds have been suggested for affected users. Foldable smartphone users are reportedly advised to open the Gmail app in portrait mode first and then switch to landscape mode before rotating back to portrait view.
Users have also been advised to update Android System WebView and clear cache and storage data from the Gmail app settings to reduce the flickering issue temporarily.
The Gmail app remains one of the most widely used email platforms globally, with more than 10 billion downloads on the Google Play Store. The issue comes shortly after reports that Google was testing a new Verified Email system through Credential Manager to improve sign-up and user experience on Android devices.
